One of Those Days...

Some days, having eight children feels like a lot. I mean, it IS a lot. I get that. But a lot of the time I look around and think everything feels pretty normal. It doesn't feel hectic, crazy and overwhelming. And other days, well, it DOES.

On those days, I don't get to pee in privacy or finish a two minute phone call without some minor catastophe, a two year old who got a taste of freedom and is running free and wild in the front yard- right toward the street. Oh yeah, and he managed to take his diaper off and is doing said running NAKED. And when I run out to capture this wild child, the neighbors are standing in their respective yards, observing and having a hearty laugh.

Parenting can certainly keep you humble.

On THESE kinds of days, you just want to bust open an entire package of Pepperidge Farm cookies and eat them all by yourself. And no, you don't want to share with the kids.

For those of you who don't know me well, yes, I have eight children. But here is the real kicker- seven of them are boys. And boys are just NOT girls. They are wild and rowdy and rambunctious and I wouldn't have them any other way. This just means they are a lot of work.

Anyway, today was one of those days.

Thankfully, tomorrow is a whole new day. And God's mercies are new every morning. He is certainly, without a shadow of a doubt, using these kids to transform me into a selfless, patient, loving person. I am thankful for that.

And for my Pepperidge Farm cookies.

  1. That is funny... I know what you mean about eating the cookies without sharing. Just before I told my kids, I just want to eat my piece of cake and drink my cup of tea in peace (meaning by myself). I let them eat first and then asked them to go play so I could relax before starting dinner. I sometimes feel bad doing that but really need a few minutes to regroup (and I only have two so far, so I can just imagine)!

  2. I love this post. It's so like everyday life with kiddos. Thanks for being real and transparent. For those of us with children, we all have those days. Trusting today is not "one of those days" for you. Blessings!

  3. Hi Amy Danielle!
Bless you! Eight children. What a privilege to be their mama. We have four and now THEY are having families. Yes, "those days" are many and the pace you keep now . . . well, you'll shake your head and marvel at it fifteen years from now. I hope you have many bags of Mint Milanos and Chessmen at the ready, at ALL times.
